Frequently Asked Questions About Balance Boards

Who is a Balance Board suitable for?

Balance Boards are suitable for children, teenagers, adults and seniors. Depending on the model, you can playfully train balance and coordination, prepare for board sports, stay active at a standing desk or integrate targeted balance training into your everyday life.

What is a Balance Board good for?

A Balance Board primarily trains balance, coordination and body control. The unstable surface requires your body to constantly make small adjustments, particularly activating the stabilising muscles.

Depending on how you use it, a Balance Board can be suitable for general balance training, as a complement to different sports, for surf and board sports training or for adding more movement to everyday life and standing desk routines.

Which Balance Board is the best?

The best Balance Board depends on what you want to use it for. Beginners and general balance training require a different board than surf training, kids, standing desk use or progressive performance training.

Your skill level, intended use and the type of movement you want to train are the key factors. There is no single best Balance Board for everyone – the right choice depends on your individual needs.

Which Balance Board is suitable for beginners?

THE SHORTY is particularly suitable for beginners. It is our versatile all-rounder and offers an accessible introduction to Balance Board training. If you want to start with less instability, you can use THE SHORTY with a half cork roller and later progress to the freely rolling cork roller.

How often and how long should I train with a Balance Board?

How long you train with a Balance Board depends on your skill level, training goals and intensity. For beginners, short sessions of around 5–10 minutes can be a good starting point. As you gain experience, you can gradually increase the duration, exercises and difficulty.

Regular training with controlled movements is more important than simply training for as long as possible. Balance training can also be easily integrated into everyday life as a short session or used as a warm-up before other sports.

Is Balance Board training good for your back?

Balance Board training challenges the stabilising muscles around your core and spine and can contribute to greater body control and stability. The constantly changing small corrective movements particularly activate the core muscles.

If you have existing back pain, injuries or other symptoms, training should be individually discussed with a physiotherapist or medical professional.

Can I lose weight with a Balance Board?

Balance Board training adds movement to your everyday life while engaging different muscle groups, particularly the stabilising muscles. How many calories you burn depends on the duration, intensity and exercises performed.

For weight loss, however, your overall energy balance is the key factor. Balance Board training can be part of an active lifestyle, but it does not replace a comprehensive approach to exercise and nutrition.

Do I need additional accessories for a Balance Board?

To get started, you do not necessarily need any additional accessories besides the Balance Board and the appropriate roller. A cork mat can provide additional grip, reduce noise and help protect your floor.

Depending on the model and intended use, additional cork rollers or a Balance Board stand can complement your setup. Complete sets already include matching accessories.

Which Balance Board is best for surfers?

THE SURFER was specifically developed for surf-oriented training on land and is suitable for surf beginners through to advanced surfers. The lengthwise cork roller allows targeted weight shifts as well as Cross Steps, Hang Five and Hang Ten. THE SURFER is also suitable for preparing for wakesurfing, Citywave and wave pool surfing.

For getting started with general Balance Board training, THE SHORTY is the more accessible choice. THE BALANCE TRAINER PRO, on the other hand, is a modular training system for progressive performance training and offers three difficulty levels.

From what age are Balance Boards suitable?

The appropriate age depends on the Balance Board and the individual abilities of the child. THE MINI KIDS is specifically designed for children from around 2 years old. For the next step, THE SHORTY with a half cork roller can be a suitable option, often from around 4–5 years old.

As balance and body control develop, children can later progress to freely rolling Balance Boards. More demanding models such as THE SURFER require greater balance and body tension and are therefore generally better suited to older children and more experienced users.

How do I care for my Balance Board?

Wipe your Balance Board with a slightly damp cloth when needed and allow it to dry completely afterwards. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, water and strong direct sunlight. The cork roller does not require any special care.

With proper care, the board and cork roller will remain in good condition for a long time.

What is the difference between a Balance Board and THE BALANCE TRAINER PRO?

A classic Balance Board moves on a roller and challenges balance, coordination and body control. Depending on the shape of the board and roller, different movements and training focuses are possible.

THE BALANCE TRAINER PRO, on the other hand, is a modular training system with a 179.5 cm platform, rope system and three difficulty levels. Its multidirectional instability and different setups enable progressive training for board control and surf-oriented movement patterns.
